What is the Sheffield First Partnership?
The Sheffield First Partnership [SFP] is the city-wide partnership bringing together public, private, voluntary, community and faith sectors to co-ordinate regeneration activity. SFP is responsible for setting the City Strategy - a set of ambitious goals for the transformation of Sheffield. SFP is not a direct service delivery organisation, but works through its partners to bring about improvements in the prosperity and quality of life of Sheffield. In February 2002, Sheffield First Partnership was formally recognised by the Government as the 'Local Strategic Partnership' for the city of Sheffield. Visit the Sheffield First Partnership website
SFP is also charged with overseeing the implementation of Sheffield's Local Area Agreement entitled the Sheffield First Agreement Click here to read more about the Sheffield First Agreement.
HOW IS IT MADE UP?
The Sheffield First Partnership was reviewed over the latter months of 2008 to ensure it continues to be a Partnership fit for purpose to meet the challenges that face the city. The diagram below depicts the revised SFP structure implemented in April 2009. For archive information on the pre-April 09 structure and related documents click here

The SFP has several Boards - some overseeing delivery, others championing and monitoring cross cutting issues. The Delivery Boards reflect the themes in the Sheffield First Agreement. All report to the main Sheffield First Partnership Board.
VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY AND FAITH SECTOR REPRESENTATION and SUPPORT
The Voluntary Community and Faith sector has representation on the various SFP Boards. Representatives must be involved in the sector, either as volunteers, management board members or paid staff.
Up to April 2010 support for VCF reps has been provided by both OFFER and Voluntary Action Sheffield; - with OFFER also negotiating and generating a range of resources and documents such as:
- The OFFER/Sheffield First Protocol which governed the relationship between the two and explained how VCF reps are selected and supported
- The OFFER SF monthly ebulletins summarising the meetings and explaining what the VCF sector had influenced.
- The How Your City Works training programme which helped Community representatives get to grips with strategic structures for the City and how to effectively engage and influence. Many past HYCW's participants have gone onto engage with key structures including the SF partnership.
With OFFER's closure at the end of April 2010, one of OFFER's final tasks has been to try to negotiate new arrangements for VCF rep support - click here to read about these along with what may / will be lost as a result of OFFER closing.
